TED is a worldwide phenomenon. Yet when 250 people gathered for the first TEDxSan Antonio event last year, no one really knew what was in store.
Organizers worked tirelessly for more than a year watching and hoping the pieces and parts would come together. Speakers shaped their talks into engaging 18-minute oratorical works of art. TEDsters and others anticipated an invitation to attend. Sponsors like Trinity University, Rackspace and Frost Bank pledged their support for something new and bold.
TEDxSanAntonio led the way. Since that first event, other TEDx event groups around the country have looked to us for mentorship and patterned their events on ours. And as perhaps one of the greatest nods to our efforts in San Antonio, the global TED invited one of our showcased speakers to the coveted primary TED event in Long Beach.

While TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, the 2010 TEDxSanAntonio event featured speakers focused on gardening, creativity and the arts, education, repealing the death penalty, human trafficking, body image, computer programming, bionic legs, glass children, the green economy, being on a winning team, the power of lobbyists, diabetes and green building.
